Repair and restoration

Exterior chimney restoration

A worn, stained, or dated chimney drags down the look of the whole house. We work on the masonry, the mortar joints, the staining, old coatings and crown damage, so the chimney looks right again and the structure underneath is protected.

How it works

  1. We look at the whole chimney

How it looks from the street and what shape it's in up close.

  2. We lay out the options

What each part of the work does for the look of the chimney and for the structure, so you can choose.

  3. You get a written quote

The work, the materials and the price in writing.

  4. We restore it

Masonry and mortar first, then the crown, cap or cover, then cleaning and finishing.

Beautiful Chimney Restoration Built to Last for Years.

A chimney is one of the first things people see on a roofline. When it's stained, patched or crumbling, the whole house looks older than it is.

What restoration covers

  • Masonry repair and tuckpointing, with brick and mortar matched to the house
  • Removing staining and old coatings
  • Crown repair or rebuilding
  • New caps and chase covers
  • Flashing where the chimney meets the roof

Where to start

Start with an inspection. Restoration work on the outside of a chimney should go on a chimney that's sound, so we look at both before we quote.

What goes into the price

Every chimney is different, so this work is priced after we have looked at yours.

  • How much of the chimney needs masonry work.
  • Whether the crown, the cap or the chase cover are part of the job.
  • How much staining or old coating has to come off.

Questions

More in questions and answers.

Do you always recommend the biggest repair?

No. Sometimes a chimney needs a major repair. Other times a smaller targeted repair can solve the problem and save the homeowner significant money. Knowing the difference comes from experience.

How do repair quotes work?

Repairs start with an inspection. We show you what we found, go over the options, and send you a written quote. Nothing starts until you've approved the quote.

Can you give me an estimate from pictures?

Yes. Send us pictures of your chimney and we can give you a rough idea of what the work involves. Any estimate from pictures is preliminary and is not a final price until we visit the property and inspect the job in person.
