Chimney sweep, inspection and repair in Bloomfield Hills

Houses in Bloomfield Hills tend to be large, set back on wooded lots, and built with more than one fireplace. That usually means more than one flue, and often more than one chimney.

Tall chimneys on steep roofs

Many homes here, from the older estates near Cranbrook to houses built in the 1980s and 1990s, have tall stone or brick chimneys on steep roofs. Most of the wear on a tall chimney happens up where nobody sees it: the crown, the cap and the tops of the flue tiles.

Several fireplaces, several flues

A house with a fireplace in the living room, the family room, the library and the primary bedroom can have four separate flues, and each one gets inspected on its own. Tell us how many fireplaces you have when you book, or call, so we plan the visit around all of them.

Stone chimneys

Stone chimneys wear differently from brick. The mortar between irregular stones is thicker, and when it starts to fail, water gets deep into the chimney.

Repairs on a stone chimney have to match stone and mortar that have weathered for decades. We look at the whole face of the chimney before we suggest a repair, and we tell you when a smaller repair will do.

Home sales

Houses in Bloomfield Hills usually sell with a detailed inspection, and the chimney is one of the harder parts to see. A Level 2 inspection covers the chimney areas in the attic, basement and crawl spaces and puts a camera through each flue.

Questions

What if I have more than one chimney or fireplace?

When you book online you can choose a quantity for each service, for homes with more than one flue or fireplace. If you're not sure what to pick, call (248) 266-9991 and we'll sort it out with you.

What does a chimney inspection cost?

A standard chimney inspection is $49, and that $49 is credited toward any repair or service we perform following the inspection. If you move forward with recommended work, the inspection fee goes toward the cost of the job.

What is a Level 2 chimney inspection?

Everything in a Level 1 inspection, plus the chimney areas in the attic, basement and crawl spaces, and a camera inspection of the inside of the flue. Commonly done when a home is sold, when the system is changed, or after a chimney fire or storm damage.

Do you work on commercial properties?

Yes. Alongside homeowners we work with commercial properties, property managers, and condo and HOA communities.
