Chimney sweep, inspection and repair in Franklin

Franklin is a village of big wooded lots, with a historic district at its center and houses around it built mostly from the 1950s through the 1970s.

Chimneys under the trees

Most Franklin lots are an acre or more, and most of them are wooded. A chimney that sits in shade most of the day stays damp longer after rain, collects leaves and seeds on the crown, and is easy for animals to reach from overhanging branches.

If you haven't looked at the top of your chimney since you moved in, a pair of binoculars from the yard will tell you a lot. An inspection will tell you the rest.

Ranch houses and long rooflines

Many of Franklin's ranches have long, low roofs with the chimney at one end or in the middle. A ranch chimney stands only a few feet above the shingles, which makes the crown and the flashing easy to forget about, and those are where water gets in.

The historic district

If your house is in Franklin's historic district, exterior work that changes how a chimney looks can need approval from the village before it starts. We'll ask about it before we quote any work that shows from the street.

For houses in and around the district, we match brick, stone and mortar to what's already on the house, so a repaired chimney keeps the character the village is known for.

Getting to you

We come into Franklin on Franklin Road, 14 Mile, 13 Mile and Telegraph, usually alongside jobs in Beverly Hills, Bloomfield Hills and Southfield. Long driveways and wooded lots are no trouble; just tell us when you book if the house is hard to spot from the road.

A cleaning before the season

If the fireplace hasn't been used in a while, book a cleaning and inspection. We sweep the flue, inspect the chimney on the same visit, and tell you what we found in plain language.
