Chimney sweep and cleaning in Taylor
Where a Taylor ranch has a fireplace, it usually shares the chimney with the furnace flue, and a sweep is a good time to check on both.

How Taylor fireplaces get used
Some Taylor ranches were built without a fireplace at all. Where there is one, it's usually a masonry fireplace in the living room, and over sixty years each one has gone its own way. Some still burn wood every weekend. Some have a wood insert like the one in the photo. Some got gas logs, and some were closed off by an earlier owner. Wood and inserts leave soot and creosote in the flue, and that's what a sweep takes off.
Trees, parks and nests
Heritage Park on Pardee has Coan Lake, a pond named for Peter Coan, who bought the first land in the area in 1830. Houses near the park and the water, and anywhere a big tree hangs over the roof, get leaves and twigs on the chimney top and squirrels on the roof. An open flue with no cap lets all of it fall in.
Chimney swifts nest in chimneys from May to August and are federally protected. By the time the Junior League World Series wraps up at Heritage Park in August, most swifts are close to done nesting, and they leave for the winter soon after. If they're in your flue, the sweep waits until then. Our chimney swifts guide explains more.
When to book
Book before the first cold weekend, while the schedule still has room. If you burn most nights, the flue may need it more than once a year. Our guide on how often to clean a chimney helps you work out the right schedule.
What the $349 covers
The price is for one flue. We cover the floor, sweep the flue, and inspect the chimney inside and out on the same visit, then clean up and tell you what we found. A camera through the flue is $75 more. If your chimney has a second flue for the furnace and you'd like it swept too, set the quantity to two when you book. If the inspection turns up a cracked crown or a missing cap, we'll show you, and our page on chimney repair in Taylor lists the starting prices.
Questions
We put in a wood insert last year. Does it still need sweeping?
Yes. An insert sends its smoke up a liner that runs inside the old chimney, and that liner collects creosote like any flue. Inserts are often burned low and slow overnight, which can build it up faster. Call before you book and tell us the make if you know it, so we come ready for it.
How do I know if birds are nesting in my chimney?
Chimney swifts make a chattering or twittering sound that gets louder when the parents come in to feed the young, usually from June into August. If you hear that, leave the damper closed and don't try to remove them. They're federally protected. Call us, and we'll book the sweep for after they leave.
